چکیده

We have tried to identify different problems in music cognition and find algorithmic methods and mathematical ideas for approaching these problems. The main theme was working on rhythms, and particularly focusing on syncopation and other elements that make a rhythm sound interesting, or complex. Two rather independent problems have been dealt with. The first is implementing an algorithm for finding the syncopation of a rhythm and using it to induce the meter for a given rhythm. The second problem is that of measuring the complexity of a given rhythm based on factors such as the amount of repetition and syncopation. These problems will be dealt with in the following sections.

Rhythm Complexity Measures: A Comparison of Mathematical Models of Human Perception and Performance

Thirty two measures of rhythm complexity are compared using three widely different rhythm data sets. Twenty-two of these measures have been investigated in a limited context in the past, and ten new measures are explored here. Some of these measures are mathematically inspired, some were designed to measure syncopation, some were intended to predict various measures of human performance, some a...

Rhythmic complexity and predictive coding: a novel approach to modeling rhythm and meter perception in music

Musical rhythm, consisting of apparently abstract intervals of accented temporal events, has a remarkable capacity to move our minds and bodies. How does the cognitive system enable our experiences of rhythmically complex music? In this paper, we describe some common forms of rhythmic complexity in music and propose the theory of predictive coding (PC) as a framework for understanding how rhyth...

Initial documented rhythm as a predictor of survivalto-discharge rate after in-hospital cardiac arrest in a tertiary care referral institute, South India: an observational study

Objective: Survival-to-discharge rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients remain significantly low. The use of initial documented cardiac rhythm as predictor of Survival-to-discharge is still unclear. This study aimed to assess whether the initial documented rhythm can be used as a predictor of survival-to-discharge following IHCA in an emergency department of the tertiary car...

The controllability of cardiac rhythm in elderly

Introduction: Recent reports have shown that rare fluctuations in cardiac cycles are ‘forgotten’ quickly in healthy individuals and it is possible to quantify the “memory length” of a physiological time-series using an inverse statistical approach. Methods: In the present study, we assessed the effect of aging on memory length in cardiac rhythm. Results: There was a long...

THE EVALUATION OF SYMMETRIC RESTING SCAPULAR POSTURE AND SCAPULOHUMERAL RHYTHM RATIO BETWEEN DOMINANT AND NON-DOMINANT SHOULDERS IN ELDERLY SUBJECTS IN DIFFERENT HUMERAL ABDUCTION ANGLES

Background & Aims: Previous studies have stated that the scapulohumeral rhythm dysfunction can make a person prone to glenohumeral joint pathologies. The purpose of this study was to survey symmetric resting scapular posture and scapulohumeral rhythm ratio between dominant and non-dominant shoulders in elderly subjects in different humeral abduction angles. Materials & Methods: Thirty-five hea...
